What is the D.M.21/03/73 (Italy)?

D.M. 21/03/73 stands for Decree of the Minister for Health of March 21, 1973. It requests the rules for packaging, containers and utensils intended to come into contact with foodstuffs or personal use products.   • Whether plastic material need to follow Italian standard or not?

    Yes, it should be. PP, PE, POM, PS, AS, PMMA, EVA, PET, PPS material, they need to proceed with testing under Italian standard.

  • What is the main testing method of Italian standard?

    The liquid coming from the release tests (distilled water, aqueous solution of acetic acid at 3%, oil sunflower, aqueous solution of ethanol), is submitted to spectrophotometric between 400 and 750 nm, assuming the same solvent as a reference not subjected to the sale. Spectrophotometric analysis is carried out for aqueous solutions, ethanolic acetic and, on cells of 10 cm of optical path, for the oil of Sunflower on cells of 1 cm optical path. In the range of wavelength indicated, the optical transmission must be not less than 95% compared to the baseline.

  • Is there any recall case if the goods cannot pass Italian standard?

    Yes, the Italian marker is strict for the Food Contact Materials, especially for the products with stainless steel materials. If the products cannot reach Italian standard, it will cause recall.
